3D scanning data augments live feedback in landscape design with Fologram

The research presented in the paper ‘Sandscape & Datascape: Augmenting the Augmented Reality Sandbox’ by Philip Belesky, Mariusz Hermansdorfer, and Kane Borg uses Fologram in a feedback loop with the Kinect to present and display information on a live sandbox landscape in real time.

The 3D scanner is used to detect both height and colour information in the physical environment. This information is translated in grasshopper and displayed in AR with Fologram to overlay gradients on the landscape, as well as 3D geometries such as plants, water flow and extrusions, giving the user real time feedback over the physical model.
