Beginner: Sync Object Materials & Textures

Materials and textures can be assigned to geometries through the Object Properties of a Sync Object component. Right click on Fologram logo of any Sync Object component to bring up its Object Properties.

Create Basic Materials
The Object Properties of a Sync Object component contains control over the diffuse, specular and gloss properties of any geometry. The diffuse properties of a geometry is controlled by the colour picker, the Specular slider will make the geometry material shinier and the Gloss slider will make the reflections clearer. These changes update live to any connected device so decisions around materiality can be made in real time.

Apply Textures
To apply a texture to a geometry, use the ‘Select Texture’ option in the Object Properties menu. This will open up an explorer dialog box to select any JPEG or PNG image file to use as a texture. The image file will override any colour selection, but will retain specular and gloss properties. To remove an image file after it has been applied, open the object properties and click on the image name to bring up the explorer dialog box. Press cancel and a message will prompt to clear the currently assigned texture.

Thanks for this. Works really well, especially as we can include the texture coordinates.

Would it be possible to include a Transparency map/image/texture, too? I can share an example if needed.

Hi @mathias, a texture with transparency should work in Fologram (if you’re using a PNG with transparent areas). You can also use the ‘Occlusion’ option in the Sync Object component to make something truly transparent (really great tool for blocking physical geometry out in AR).
